Account Creation API

Modified on Thu, 5 Jun at 3:46 PM

All account creation such as sub-account setup, is managed through Tall Bob Support. However, this can also be achieved programmatically by your Technical Team by calling our Account Creation API which you can refer here to get started.

To create sub-accounts, you will first need a main account.  Sub-accounts are used to maintain data segregation across different functional areas or teams.  Typical use cases include: separating internal and external operations such as billing and marketing activities, ensuring the data is isolated for reporting, analytics and access control.

To help you get started, we have listed the key steps below to guide you through how to use the Account Creation API:

  1. Activating Account Creation API
  2. Creating your API credentials
  3. Test the Account Creation API
  4. Verifying your newly created Account

Billing depends on the main account configuration. Any new account will be a line item on your invoice. Shortcodes and longcodes will be invoiced separately. You may refer here to understand how our billing works when using the Account Creation API.

Activating Account Creation API

Account Creation API is not activated by default on your account. Before you can start integrating, you need to request for Account Creation API activation. On activation of Account Creation API, a template account will be created for you.

  1. You may reach out to your Account Manager or Tall Bob Support to enable this feature. All you’ll need to do is provide us with the default users.
  2. Once you receive confirmation that the functionality has been activated and you have existing API credentials, you may go straight to Test the Account Creation API.  Otherwise, you should first create API keys by following the steps in Create your API credentials.

Creating your API credentials

To generate API credentials, you should use your default user provided in the activation step here. You can refer how to create API access here.

Test the Account Creation API

  1. You can refer to our Account Creation API documentation for the details on the API.

On successful API call of Account Creation API, a prefix will be included at the start of the Account Name. You may refer here for steps on Account Creation API activation.

Verifying your newly created Account

  1. Newly created accounts using Account Creation API can be verified by either of these options:
    1. The List Account API will retrieve a list of Accounts created where you can check if your newly created account was added.
    2. Tall Bob Dashboard - After a successful login to your main or template account, the new account should be listed on the Account Selection screen.
    3. Tall Bob Dashboard - Top right corner where the Account Switcher is.

Helpful Notes

  • For prepaid accounts, credit cards will need to be setup on a per-account basis.
  • Any configuration changes done on the template account will only be applied to accounts created after the changes and will not be applied to previously created accounts through the API.

Understanding how you are billed when using Create Account API

You may receive up to 2 invoices per billing period.

  1. One invoice will include usage for both your existing accounts and any new accounts created via our Account Creation API. Below is a sample invoice showing multiple sub-accounts.

Multiple Accounts invoice - The above invoice shows usage for 4 sub accounts.

Default invoice - Single account invoice.

  2. Any platform, longcode or shortcode fees will appear on a separate invoice.

If you have multiple longcodes or shortcodes, the charges will appear grouped as a single line item on your invoice. If you need an itemised breakdown, please contact your Account Manager.
