ACMA Overview

Modified on Tue, 3 Mar at 1:44 PM

Starting 1 July 2026, new Australian regulations require all businesses sending branded text messages (e.g., messages appearing as ‘YourBank’ instead of a phone number) to register their Sender ID with the official SMS Sender ID Register.

To help protect consumers against scams, any branded messages from businesses that fail to register by this date will be automatically labelled as "Unverified" or may be blocked entirely.

The Registration Process

To ensure your messages remain trusted and delivered, follow these steps to register your Sender ID through the Tall Bob platform:

Step 1: Set up ACMA Assist

Before applying in Tall Bob, your Authorised Business Representative (ABR)—the person who manages your business’s ABN—must set up an account in the ACMA Assist portal.

  • Identity Check: The ABR will need to verify their identity (typically via the myID app) to gain access.

  • Why this matters: Only the ABR can initially authorize the registration of Sender IDs for your ABN.

Step 2: Submit your Application via Tall Bob

Once your ACMA Assist account is ready, lodge your request through the Tall Bob platform:

  1. Navigate to the Manage Sender Address page: app.tallbob.com/manage_sender_address.

  2. Submit the Sender ID you wish to use (ensure it matches your registered business name or trademark).

Step 3: Internal Review & Submission

  • Tall Bob Review: Our Admin team will review your application for accuracy. If more information is needed, your Account Manager will reach out to you directly.

  • ACMA Submission: Once verified, Tall Bob will formally submit your application to the ACMA for final approval.

  • Once the application is submitted, ACMA will notify the Authorised Business Representative regarding the submission. The authorised user must log in to ACMA Assist and approve the request

* Authorised Representative: The authorised representative is not the person submitting the application. They must have legal authority to act on behalf of the legal entity e.g. listed on ABR Registry (CEO) or registered in ACMA as a business administrator.
