Why isn't the GIF file in my MMS displaying correctly?
If a GIF in your MMS message is not displaying correctly on an iPhone, this may be related to the device’s settings, message filtering, or how the media is processed.
Please try the following steps:
- Disable 'Filter Unknown Senders': Go to Settings > Messages > Unknown & Spam (or Message Filtering, depending on your iOS version) and turn off Filter Unknown Senders. This moves messages from unsaved numbers out of the filtered list, which may help resolve issues with displaying media.
- Check Sensitive Content Warning: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Sensitive Content Warning and check whether the feature is enabled. If it is, try turning it off entirely or disabling it specifically for the Messages app to see whether this resolves the GIF display issue.
- Reply to the sender: Reply to the sender’s message to establish the conversation as trusted, then check whether the GIF displays correctly.
- Manually download the GIF: Tap the blank or broken GIF in the conversation, if the option is available, to try downloading it again.
- Save the sender to your contacts: Add the sender’s number to your contacts, then reopen the conversation and check whether the GIF loads correctly.
