Setting up an Alphanumeric Sender ID in Ortto

Modified on Tue, 3 Sep at 8:10 AM

The Ortto integration allows users to send campaigns using an Alphanumeric Sender ID.  For example, you can send a message from 'YourBrand' instead of +61409xxxyyy.

Alphanumeric Sender IDs can:

  • Increase open rates: Recipients are more likely to open an SMS message if they know the sender.
  • Improve brand recognition: Alphanumeric sender IDs allow you to display your brand name as the sender of your SMS messages.
  • Provide better compliance: In some countries, there are regulations that require businesses to use alphanumeric sender IDs when sending SMS messages.

Alphanumeric Sender IDs cannot:

  • Be replied to: Recipients cannot reply to messages that are sent from an Alphanumeric Sender ID. This means they are not suitable in cases where you want to support 2 way or conversational SMS. You will also need to ensure you provide an alternate means to manage unsubscribes if your messages require it.
  • Be used in all countries: Some countries such as New Zealand do not support Alphanumeric Sender IDs, and require a New Zealand Shortcode to be used instead. In cases like this, the Tall Bob platform will override the Sender Address and automatically use the shortcode assigned to your account or as a fallback the Tall Bob NZ Shortcode (this is a low volume shortcode, meant for testing and deliverability purposes only).
