How to manage opt-outs in Tall Bob

Opt-outs are an important part of any SMS/MMS marketing campaign. You want to make sure that your customers can opt out of receiving messages if they want to. Tall Bob makes it easy to manage opt-outs, and in this article, we'll show you how.


How users can opt-out:

  • Click on an opt-out link in an SMS/MMS message: If you receive an SMS/MMS message from Tall Bob, there will be an opt-out link at the bottom of the message. Just click on the link and you'll be unsubscribed from the campaign.
  • Click on an opt-out link on the landing page associated with the campaign: If you visit the landing page associated with a Tall Bob campaign, there will be an opt-out link there as well. Just click on the link and you'll be unsubscribed from the campaign.
  • Reply with "Stop" or another appropriate keyword to an SMS/MMS message: You can also opt out of receiving SMS/MMS messages from Tall Bob by replying with the word "Stop" or another appropriate keyword.

How to modify an opt-out via API:

If you want to modify an opt-out via API, it can be done by using the Modify Consent endpoint. This endpoint allows you to manage opt-outs from a mobile number perspective. This is often used to handle things like Do Not Call Registers. Numbers in the Modify Consent endpoint won't receive messages, even if a contact with the same number is included in a send via Tall Bob.

The Endpoint accepts two inputs

  • Mobile number in E.164 format
  • type (opt-in|opt-out)


How to set up an Opt-out Trigger in Tall Bob:

An opt-out trigger is a mechanism that allows users to unsubscribe from receiving communications from a particular sender or source. This is typically done by replying Stop, Unsubscribe, Opt-out etc to the received message. For more information on setting up Opt-out triggers click here
